Our Story
Having spent many years as a family visiting holiday lets in the Peak District and across the UK, we decided to start our own holiday home business. In 2022, we left our home in Guernsey and moved to Shropshire, near the England-Wales border, where we found Wood Farm House. From the moment we saw this traditional oak frame timber and brick farmhouse with its charming outbuildings and surrounding countryside, we knew it was the perfect rural retreat with lots of potential.
Come and Stay
What inspired us to start
When we first arrived at our new home in October 2022 we set ourselves the target of getting Oak Tree Hideaway up and running before the summer 2023 which we managed to achieve. We discovered that the Hideaway was originally a 2 bay oak frame garage which had been converted by the previous owner. We knew from when we first viewed the house that the Hideaway was in need of some work, and recognised that it order to make it successful it would need to be finished to a high standard for our guests.
Oak Tree Hideaway is surrounded by open countryside, with rolling fields, wooded areas, and views of the Welsh hills. We aimed to embrace the natural surroundings and attract local wildlife, planting new trees and hedges with the Woodland Trust to form a wildlife corridor. Guests often see pheasants, partridges, rabbits, squirrels, and garden birds in the garden.
The 800-year-old ancient oak tree in the garden is illuminated at night for guests to enjoy. Oak Tree Hideaway’s success in its first 12 months has led us to begin renovating another barn to offer a second luxury retreat at Wood Farm House.
